Dear Mr. E.,

Thank you for your information on the number of units that your daughter is taking in the German school.

On the 11th grade, she takes 34 units in total. The guide-line from Japanese Educational Office(Monbu-Kagaku-sho) is "around 30 units for each year", so I think there's no problem for us to take her into our 12th grade. Please do not worry about it.

We all hope that she will enjoy the last part of the school year.
Sincerely,

OYAMA, Kazutomo(Mr.)

Dear Oyama-sensei,

Thank you for your positive feedback, which has relieved us very much.

We are very close to our decision to send our daughter to your school and my daughter would like to visit the school, when we go to Japan in 3 weeks.

The main purpose of our stay in Japan is for our son to take the entrance examination at several schools. We will be in Japan from 30th of June to 13th or 18th of July (the period of stay depends on the outcome of the exam).

My daughter would take the exam at your school on 12th of July, but other days she has in principle nothing special to do. Then an idea has come up to us ; maybe she will be able to attend the class(es) of your school already in July (as 'experiencing period' basis = Taiken Nyuugaku). It would be a great opportunity for her to see the curriculum in Japanese school. By doing so, she will be able to prepare herself for the new school life far better.

Maybe she can attend different types of classes (literary class and math/scientific class, and 3rd grade and 2nd grade, if she feels necessary) and identify which class fits her best. In that respect, it would be nice, if she could join each type of class for 2 - 3 days each.

Could you please be so kind to investigate the possibility of my daughter's attending the class(es) in July and let me know your suggestion ?

Thank you very much in advance for your kind supports to her.
Best regards,
S.E.

Dear Mr. E.,

I think it is a good idea, however, we will be facing at the end-term examination.
July 1(Tue.): school holiday--- There's TAIIKUSAI on June 30.
   July 8-12(Tue.-Sat.): End-term examination
It means there's rarely possibility to attend regular lessons for her, even though she can attend the classes on July 2, 3 and 4. Is it OK for her one or two days only to experience the classes, and in which our students are a little bit tired and beginning to prepare for the examination?

Let me recommend her to attend the English-Course and the Math/Scientific-Course of the 3rd grade, because I think these are the best choices for your daughter. Literary-Course is arranged mainly for the students who are coping the faculties of Literature, Law & Politics, Economics, etc. of Private Colleges and Vocational Schools (Senmon gakko), so I am afraid it is boring some for her.

At any rate, please choose one or two days for her to attend the classes, if she want, and contact us before your departure. We are happy to see her enjoying in our school, of course.
Sincerely,

OYAMA, Kazutomo (Mr.)

Dear Oyama-Sensei,

Thank you for your e-mail and your suggestion for visiting Junshin-Joshi-Gakuen High School for a couple of days.

I would like to attend all the these courses on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of July, in order to see the atomosphere of the school and the levels of each class. I prefer to attend a science course (3rd grade) with lectures of maths III, chemistry II, and chemical experiment, English course (3rd grade) with oral III and world history and literary course (3rd grade) with world history. If it is difficult to organise 3-day visit, I would visit science- and English courses on 2 days. Please advise based on the lecture schedule.

If it is possible, I would like to visit the school once again the week after for discussing with you or other teacher(s) in charge about the detailed curriculum and also about the entrance examination at niversities (how I can prepare for it during summer holidays, which university fits well to me, etc.).

Thank you very much in advance for your kind support to me.
Looking forwards to seeing you soon in Tokyo.

Dear M.-san,

I am happy to read a message form you directly, which I hand it to Principal to make him happy (^o^)\.

There's a teachers-meeting yesterday, and your 3-days visit was accepted. But, please give us a few weeks to set up a special schedule for you, because we should check the lecture schedule.

The sudents here are preparing for TAIIKU-SAI, Sports Festival, which is held on June 30. What date will you arrive in Tokyo? It is nice if you can come to TOKYO-TAIIKUKAN in Sendagaya, in which TAIIKU-SAI is held 10:00a.m.-3:00p.m.

Why not....., Hmm......, You don't need to be in a hurry. It is the most important for you to watch your health and settle down your life in Germany. Please take good care of yourself and your family.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Dear Oyama-Sensei,

Thank you for your support to my daughter. Below please find the second e-mail message from her.

------------ E Mail of M.E.---------------
Dear Oyama-sensei,

Thank you for your e-mail message.

Concerning the 3-day lecture schedule for me, thank you very much for your kind efforts for setting up the special schedule for me. It would be highly appreciated, if you could send it to me before our departure from Germany on 28th of June.
We will arrive in Tokyo on June 29th '03, therefore I can come and see the "Taiiku-Sai". Please send me the map of the "Tokyo-Taiikukan", so that I can reach it without any problem.

I have one Question about the clothes during my visit at the school. What kinds of clothes should I wear?
For example:
- blouses/shirts ; can I wear polo shirt during my 3 day visit (and at sport festival) ? Or should I wear blouses ? How about the color ? Can I wear colored shirts/blouses during the short visit ? Or is it advisable to wear white shirts/blouses ?
- Trousers or skirts ; can I wear trousers (no jeans) ? Or shall I wear skirt ? How about color ?
- Hair style : is there anything I should take care of the hair style ?
- Bags

Concerning the entrance examination at the university, I have only a few month ahead to prepare for it. Thus, I would like to make the best use of my visit in July. I do not have so much information/data about the entrance exam as well as universities in Japan themselves. Thus, I would like to have the discussion on this issue in July, as the first step. It would also be appreciated, if I could get some materials for preparing for the exam (e.g., how to write the short essays).

I hope I do not bother you so much with my requests/wishes.
I'm looking forwards to seeing from you soon in June 30th.

Dear M.-san,

Are you all right to prepare for the trip to Japan?
Here is our lesson plan for you. As you will attend the classes to experience and know the atomosphere of the school, you don't have to attend all of the lessons on the plan. These lessons are available for you, then you choose the lessons that you want to attend, I mean. You can make free time, of course.

Time table of the school is printed in the broches which I gave your father last month, but there's a slight change.
  8:15 - 8:25 Short Home Room
  8:25 - 9:10 1-jikanme
  9:20 - 10:05 2-jikanme
 10:15 - 11:00 3-jikanme
 11:15 - 12:00 4-jikanme
 12:10 - 12:55 5-jikanme
 12:55 - 13:40 Lunch & Rest
 13:45 - 14:30 6-jikanme
 14:40 - 15:25 7-jikanme
 15:30 - 13:45 Seisou(Cleaning rooms
)

Clothes: Do you have school uiforms in German schools? If so, the uniforms are best atire.
If not, white blouses and the skirts(Semi-formal, grey, black or navy color) are recommended.
Hair style: Why don't you send me your current photo by E-mail attachment? Then, I will know
exactly you should/shouldn't do with your hair style.

Preparing for the entrance Examination, especially how to write short essays: Here's a message from Mr. T. N., the chief teacher of English Division, who has experience a JSL teacher in Austlaria and Singapore.
---------------------------------------------------------
In order for you to start preparing for essay writing in Japanese,
you should start it as soon as possible, although you cannot do
much at this moment. Here is a couple of things that you should do
while you are in Japan in June and July. Please purchase a book
called "Nihon-go no Sakubun Gijutsu" by Katsuichi Honda published
from Asahi Bunko while you are visiting Japan in June and July,
and read it from Chapter 1 to 4 again and again by the end of August.
Another thing that you can do is to buy Asahi newspaper while you
are in Japan and summerize the section called "Tensei Jingo".
I suggest that you do it at least 10 summaries.
If you have any questions, you can ask me when you are at Junshin.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
---------------------------------------------------------
TAIIKU-SAI: We welcome you and your family to the sport festival, of course. Tokyo-Taiikukan is in front of the JR-station of "Sendagatya", you can see it from the exit.

I am afraid this mail is too heavy for your father's mail account to accept (^-^;).
Have a nice trip to Japan!

Could you please kindly send me your advise, around what time I should be there with my daughter and if we should have a short discussion on the 2nd of July ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Dear Mr. E.,

Could you receive E-mail which I sent to M.-san through your mail account?
I hope you can read and understand the lesson plan(draft) that was attached it. If your daughter want to attend the classes from 3-jikanme on July 2(Wed.), it is OK that you bring her here by 10:00a.m.

There's another information. We have some examination for the domestic-transfered students on July 9(Wed.). If your daughter does't mind, we would like to ask her to take the examination (writing essey & interviews, only) on the day, because of our convenience. Please discuss about it with her.

Sincerely,

OYAMA, Kazutomo (Mr.)

Dear Oyama-Sensei,

Thank you for your e-mail messages to my daughter and myself.
Yes, I could open and read the lesson schedule for my daughter.

With regard to the visit on 2nd of July, I would bring my daughter to you (if I should bring her to somebody else, please advise) around 8:15, since she would like to join the lesson from the beginning.

The entrance exam on 9th of July is OK for us.
Please tell my daughter when we should come on 9th during her visit in the first week of July. It would also be appreciated, when you could give her the application document (Nyuugaku-Gansho) in advance.

Thank you again in advance for your kind support to my daughter.
Looking forward to seeing you soon in Japan.

Dear Oyama-Sensei,

Thank you for you e-mail and lesson schedule for me. I would like to participate in all the proposed lessons except for physical education (since I will not bring the sport wears with me).

As we don't have any uniform in my school, I would wear white blouses and black semi-formal skirt, when I visit the school on 2nd through 4th July.

With regard to the preparetion for the exam, I would follow the suggestion of N.-Sensei. I might also meet him during my stay. Please send my best regards to him.

Concering the hair style, I cannot send you my photo, since we have no scanner and our camera is not digital. I don't think, however, it requires changes, because my hair style is moderate.
-Not coloured/bleached
-No permanent treatment
-Length: a little bit longer than my shoulder
-Usually I make my hair in pony-tail.

I'm looking forwards to seeing you during my visit.

Please let us know her sizes to prepare uniforms for lending; heigt, bust and waist. Please understand that school blouses should be purchased, the prices are less than \6,000 for each.

We are also happy to see M.-san wearing the school uniform of ○○ High School.
